Community Interest: Weekly Misophonia Psychoeducation & Coping Support Group |
| Would your teen benefit from a flexible, skills-based space to navigate life with Misophonia?
Managing sound sensitivities is an ongoing journey that requires both practical tools and emotional validation. We are exploring the launch of a Drop-In Support Group for teens (ages 12–17) that prioritizes psychoeducation and evidence-based coping strategies in a low-pressure, virtual environment. The Goal To provide a space where teens can learn the “why” behind their triggers and the “how” of managing them, alongside peers who share their experiences. Unlike a fixed course, this drop-in model allows families to access professional support as needed. What the Sessions Would Include: Psychoeducation: Understanding the neurology of misophonia and the body’s “fight or flight” response. Active Coping Skills: Focused practice on emotion regulation, grounding techniques, and environmental advocacy. Facilitated Discussion: A safe, moderated space to discuss weekly challenges and successes. Guided Worksheets: Real-time completion of exercises designed to build a personal “coping toolkit.” Program Framework Ages: 12–17 Format: 60-minute virtual sessions via Zoom. Leadership: Facilitated by Shaylynn Hayes-Raymond, MA, LCT-C. Commitment: Pay-per-session (no long-term enrollment required). Nature of Group: This is a skills-based coaching and support group, not a substitute for psychotherapy. Parents: We value your input We want to ensure this resource is as effective as possible. Would this type of psychoeducation and support group be of interest to you and your teen? Please help us shape this program by answering a few quick questions: Is your teen more likely to attend on a weekday afternoon (e.g., 4:00 PM ET) or a weekend? Would you prefer a weekly frequency or a bi-weekly (every other week) schedule? Are there specific coping skills (e.g., school advocacy, family communication, or sensory regulation) you would like to see prioritized? |
