Asynchronous counselling is a specialized, asynchronous modality tailored for clients who find significant clarity through the process of intentional writing. Unlike a live session, email therapy doesn’t necessitate you to be online at a specific time. Instead, it enables you to draft your thoughts and reflections at your own pace—at the moment they arise—and deliver them to a confidential and protected clinical inbox. This format is perfect for individuals with hectic schedules, people in busy households where privacy for a call is hard to find, or anyone who prefer to “sit with” their thoughts before submitting them.
The process is structured yet flexible. Each “session” generally involves one comprehensive therapeutic exchange: you send your narrative, and I provide a thorough clinical response within a set timeframe, typically 24 to 48 business hours. My response is a carefully crafted, structured intervention that reflects the depth of a 50-minute session, offering insights, questions, and tools for reflection. You can subsequently take the time to read and process my feedback as often as you need before responding again. Because each exchange is documented, email therapy provides a permanent, growing “journal” of your therapeutic journey that you can refer back to any time you need a reminder of your progress.
Please be aware that email therapy is not typically covered by insurance providers. While real-time modalities are typically eligible for reimbursement, insurance companies often do not recognize asynchronous email as a billable service. This option is provided as a self-pay service for clients who value the flexibility and literary aspect of the medium. We use a highly secure, healthcare-grade encrypted email service to ensure that your narrative remains entirely confidential. It’s an inviting, low-pressure way to engage in meaningful counselling while maintaining total control over your schedule.
