Misophonia Therapy
Misophonia is more than just a “dislike” of sounds; it is a profound neurological and emotional experience. My approach utilizes the Misophonia Matters framework, which shifts the focus from “fixing” the reaction to validating the autonomic nervous system’s response. Central to my work is the application of CBT without the E—utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to manage the secondary distress and thoughts associated with triggers, while strictly avoiding Exposure Therapy, which can be traumatizing for those with misophonia. We focus on environmental regulation, advocacy, and emotional regulation to improve your quality of life.
Treatment Approach
I utilize a specialized application of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for Misophonia, specifically emphasizing CBT without the E. While traditional CBT often includes exposure, I believe that exposing a misophonia sufferer to their triggers is not only counterproductive but can be deeply traumatizing and physiologically damaging. Our work focuses instead on the cognitive and emotional “aftermath” of a trigger. We use evidence-based techniques to address the intrusive thoughts, feelings of guilt, and interpersonal conflict that often follow a trigger event. By decoupling the physiological reflex from the subsequent emotional spiral, we can reduce the global distress you feel.

When it comes to therapy, I’m here to walk beside you on your journey. You’re the expert on yourself, and my job is to help support you as best I can with psychotherapy approaches.
In my practice I offer evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, including CBT for Misophonia which omits traditional exposure therapy and instead focuses on the emotional aftermath of the condition. I believe in therapy that is flexible to the needs of my client, whether that’s talking it out in the moment or structured worksheets.
